A lot of films from Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam are being remade in Tamil, as local script writers seem to be running out of ideas.
Kollywood filmmakers are buying the remake rights at exorbitant rates, and mixing it with Tamil nativity and passing it off as their own story! Our directors do not want the audiences to know that they are making copies of other’s works.
Recently, Kuruvi turned out to be a poor remake of the Telugu hit Chatrapathi, while P Vasu’s Kuselan is a watered down version of the Malayalam superhit Katha Parayumbol. Now, the latest we hear is that Ajit’s Aegan is said to be an ode to SRK’s Farah Khan directed Main Hoon Na. Also, Vijay’s Prabhu Deva directed Villu, as per the grapevine, is Bobby Deol’s Abbas Mastaan directed action thriller Soldier.
The Madhavan, Mamta, Abbas film under production, titled Guru En Aalu, which is being directed by Selva, is acknowledged to be a remake of SRK’s Aziz Mirza directed Yes Boss. Meanwhile, the boom continues as Happy Days, Chocolate, Madambi, Race, Corporate, Jalsa, Khosala Ka Ghosala among others are being remade in Tamil.
